- The
People of Siberia - This lessons focuses on the Dolgan people
of Siberia, and it also asks students to build a "culture capsule"
that encourages them to think of the things that matter in their own
culture.
- How
do you view Siberia? - Have students use the Internet to locate maps
of Siberia and also maps that show where they live. Pose the following
questions:
- Describe
Siberia from where you live. Use directional terms such as north,
southeast, etc.. What kinds of transportation would you use to
get there?
- Does
Siberia appear bigger than it really is? Why is this so? What
other countries appear larger than they really are?
- What
is the latitude/longitude of the southern border of Siberia? What
is the latitude/longitude of the northernmost tip of Siberia?
- What
other countries have a similar latitude as Siberia? Do any of
these places have a different climate? Why or why not?
- Name
five countries which are larger than the land of Siberia and name
five countries that are smaller than Siberia.
- What
do you imagine life in Siberia like based on their latitude?
